JEAN PAUL BENZECRI

As is known, the most basic method of Data Analysis, as presented by the French professor JEAN PAUL BENZECRI, creating the French School which is equivalent to the English DATA ANALYSIS, is the Factorial Analysis of Correspondences (Analyse Factorielle des Correspondances -AFC-).The formulation of the method has as its mathematical background Linear Algebra, where by placing the data in a two-dimensional matrix (nxp), it converts the n rows and p columns into vectors of the space Rp or Rn respectively. This view makes the Pythagorean theorem the dominant tool for investigating the relationships that govern the rows and columns, most of the time not apparent in advance. This possibility makes this particular method dominant mainly for the analysis of qualitative data, which are not processed with classical statistical methods.

a) A brief biography of the professor Jean Paul Benzecri (1932-2019).

Jean-Paul Benzécri is a French statistician. He studied at the École Normale Supérieure and was a professor at the Pierre et Marie Curie University (Jussieu VIeme) in Paris. He is famous for developing Factor Analysis of Correspondences, a statistical technique for analyzing double-entry matrices. It is widely used in sociological and economic studies of mainly categorical data. Benzécri is also one of the inventors of the nearest neighbor algorithm for hierarchical "object" classification
